The Focus
The programme focus of the festival will be on bold, original and culturally significant short films from Bulgaria and around the world. The festival will present a carefully curated selection of fiction, documentary, experimental and student films that demonstrate strong artistic vision, clear storytelling and international relevance. Particular attention will be given to films that introduce new cinematic voices, encourage dialogue between cultures, and create opportunities for Bulgarian filmmakers to connect with the wider international film industry. Through its screenings, Q&A sessions and professional meetings, the programme will position Plovdiv as a meeting point for emerging talent, established professionals and future international co-productions.
the Rules & terms
By submitting to the Plovdiv International Film Festival, the submitter confirms that they have read, understood and agreed to the following Rules & Terms.
All films must be the original work of the filmmaker or authorised rights holder. The submitter must hold all necessary rights, licences and permissions for the film, including music, archive material, images, performances and any third-party content. The festival accepts Bulgarian and international short films of all genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, experimental and student work. Films not in English must include English subtitles. Bulgarian-language films are encouraged to include English subtitles for international guests and jury members. Submission fees are non-refundable. Submission does not guarantee selection. All selection, programming and award decisions made by the festival and jury are final.
Selected filmmakers will be notified through FilmFreeway or official festival communication. Once confirmed, selected films may not be withdrawn except in exceptional circumstances and with written approval from the festival. By submitting, the filmmaker grants the festival the right to screen the film during the festival and to use stills, trailers, posters, excerpts and press materials for promotional, press, educational and archival purposes.
The festival does not pay screening fees unless agreed in advance in writing. Travel, accommodation or hospitality support for filmmakers is not guaranteed unless confirmed separately. The submitter agrees to hold harmless the Plovdiv International Film Festival, its organisers, partners, venues, staff and volunteers from any claims or liabilities arising from the submission, selection, screening or promotion of the film. PIFF reserves the right to determine eligibility, move films between categories where appropriate, and make final decisions regarding programming, scheduling, awards and presentation.
